I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh! back in the early days, around 2002 to early 2004, and I recently lost all of my old cards, including the four decks I had kept for years. I’m posting them here mostly for memory’s sake, and maybe someday I’ll try rebuilding them.
This was my main deck back then. I built it when I was really young and just loaded it up with all of my strongest cards at the time. Me and the small group I played with weren’t exactly great at building decks. Most of mine were around 50 cards, and one of my friends had a deck that was literally just a giant stack of like a hundred. Totally ridiculous, but it was a fun time.
We’d hang out at the local card shop, and I was always trying to trade for the cool or hard-to-find cards, or save up to buy them directly from the store. I wasn’t chasing meta or anything. I just wanted what I heard was powerful or felt important.
Originally, I had Dark Magician in here like a lot of kids did back then, but eventually I received Cosmo Queen and instantly replaced him. She became my ace card. I don’t even know why I loved that card so much, but I did. There was just something about her art, the high ATK, and that mysterious vibe. I loved when I got her out, it felt like a big deal.
This was the first of my four decks. It definitely wasn’t a good deck by competitive standards, but we didn’t care. It was really just an arms race between a few of us, throwing whatever strong monsters or flashy spells we had into a pile and seeing who came out on top.
For some reason, I always liked the older, kind of bad field spells too. Stuff like “Yami” really stuck with me. I think it just reminded me of the anime. Even if it wasn’t great, I liked the atmosphere it brought to the duel.
So yeah, this was my main deck. Not the best-built, but full of memories. RIP
